Element balance adds up wood, fire, earth, metal and water across both charts — the more even the total, the more one partner supplies what the other lacks. Zodiac affinity checks the birth-year branches: the six harmonies (such as Rat–Ox) and the trines (such as Monkey–Rat–Dragon) signal affinity, while clashes (such as Rat–Horse) signal friction.
Day Master harmony compares the element of each person’s Day Master — the character that stands for the self: a generating pair (wood feeds fire) is the smoothest, same-element next, a controlling pair needs more give and take. The spouse palace is the branch of each day pillar; when the two combine, expectations for married life tend to align.
